Take Back The Night

Hi all!
Take Back the Night is Sept. 24th. We will meet in the Quad in front of the FNCC (Fred Nichols Campus Centre) at 5:30 pm. We leave campus at 6:00 pm and arrive at Brewmeister Green for 6:30 pm.

The march leaves at 7:00 pm and winds its way through the downtown streets, finishing at the Victoria Park Pavilion for refreshments.

Each year more supporters participate in this event, bringing awareness of the need to end violence against women in our communities. According to Statistics Canada, half of Canadian women (51%) have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16 and one to two women are murdered by a current or former partner each week in Canada. This is a chance to publicly celebrate women's solidarity; women will not be passive and accept the violence against them but will instead speak out and take action together for change.

As a symbolic gesture to say that women should not have to be escorted by men in order to exercise their mobility rights without fearing sexual or physical violence, the march is for women and women-identified persons only. We ask men to support us by standing along the route and shouting words of support as well as joining us for the opening rally and refreshments following the march at the Victoria Park Pavilion.(info from Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region - www.sascwr.org)

Rejected WC Slogans

In the process of coming up with a slogan a group of people can collectively agree on, we go through a lot of rejected, (and downright silly) ideas. Here are a few from our recent slogan brainstorming session that might make you laugh.

1) "The Women's Centre: Criticism without Feedback"
2) "Because we don't think you get how fucked up the world really is"
3) "That's problematic."
4) "The Women's Centre: Throwing up a fuss since 1989"
5) "The Women's Centre: Because the lesbian baby eating witches need a place to hang out"
6) "Ride em' Cowgirl"
7) "The Women's Centre: The Feminists are Taking Over"
